Privacy Policy

Last updated: 03.09.2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Receipt Scout ("we", "us", the "App") collects, uses, and protects your information. By using the App you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

We do not collect your fingerprint, face data, or device passcode. The optional app lock is handled entirely by your device's own system prompt — we only store an on/off setting on the device, and never receive the biometric data itself.

2. How we use your information

3. Third-party services

We share the minimum data necessary with service providers that process data on our behalf:

ProviderWhat it receivesWhy
OpenRouter (routing to Google Gemini)Receipt images you scanExtracting the receipt's contents
Cloudflare R2Stored receipt imagesKeeping the photo as proof for a saved receipt
BrevoYour email addressDelivering verification and password-reset codes
Google Sign-InSign-in requestOptional authentication
RevenueCatPurchase and subscription statusManaging subscriptions
Sentry (EU region)Crash and error reportsDiagnosing crashes
VultrAll data stored by the AppServer hosting

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.

4. Usage analytics

The App records a small set of product events — for example: app opened, sign-up, sign-in, email verified, onboarding started and completed, scan started, scan succeeded or failed, a scanned receipt edited before saving, receipt saved, paywall shown, purchase completed. Each event carries a random identifier generated on your device at install time, and your account id once you are signed in.

Events never contain receipt contents, merchant names, amounts, photos, or your email address. Analytics is first-party: events go to our own server and are not shared with an analytics company. Analytics events are deleted automatically 180 days after they are recorded.

5. Family groups

A family group lets one premium subscription cover everyone in a household. The group owner shares an invite code; anyone who enters it joins the group and inherits premium while the owner's subscription is active.

This is the one place where the App shows your data to another person rather than to a service provider. Inside a group, every member can see the email address of every other member, along with the group's name and which member owns it. There is no way to be in a group without your email being visible to the others, so only join groups whose members you know.

Your receipts, photos, budgets, and statistics are not shared with the group. Members share a subscription, not data: nobody in your group can see what you scanned or how much you spent.

You can leave a group at any time (Account → Family group). Leaving takes your email out of the group's member list immediately and ends the inherited premium; it does not affect your receipts. Deleting your account removes you from the group as well. If you are the owner, leaving or deleting your account dissolves the group for everyone.

6. Data retention

7. Deleting your data

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app (Account → Delete account), or request deletion by email. This removes your account, your receipts, and their stored images. Full instructions and details of what is removed are on our Delete Account page.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. Deletion is available directly in the App (section 7); for anything else, email us at the address in section 12 and we will respond.

9. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only as salted hashes, never in plain text, and email and password-reset codes are stored only as hashes. Stored receipt images are access-controlled and served through short-lived links. You can additionally require your device's biometric or PIN prompt to open the App. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

10. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their data.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
